Are bullwhips an instrument?

We all know what a whip sounds like. You know, “wa-peesh.” Something like that. But what if instead of using them to get cattle into line, you whipped it around to the beat of a song? Would that be cool? No? Well, people are doing it anyway.

Yes, it seems there’s a whole tradition of people putting on a song, then cracking a whip to it. You can pay for lessons to learn the practice, and you can even enter competitions where you go 1v1 against other whip crackers to figure out who’s the best, uh, cracker.

Maybe this one’s just “not for me.”
